Given the significant impacts to our students, faculty and staff, all instruction and non-essential operations will be remote for Monday, Feb. 22 and Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Winter Weather Update, Saturday 4:00 p.m.
Given the significant impacts to our students, faculty and staff, all instruction and non-essential operations will be remote for Monday, Feb. 22 and Tuesday, Feb. 23. Supervisors should work directly with faculty and staff who may be experiencing situations that impact the ability to instruct/work remotely and students should work directly with their faculty member. No graded activities will be due before Thursday, Feb. 25 at 8 a.m.
- All CORPS activities are suspended through Tuesday and will resume Wednesday morning.
- Conditions on campus continue to remain stable, however some facilities are still experiencing limited water service. Affected students have been contacted via their university emails with temporary alternate options.
- Students and non-essential personnel may return to campus if needed starting Sunday.
- Information on instructional activities, including adjusted exam and assessment schedules, will be posted here when available.
- Dining services continues to serve brunch and dinner from Captain’s Landing with alternate options for those with food allergies. Normal operations and locations will resume on Monday.
- The library and recreation facilities are open with regular hours.
- The bookstore, copy center, mail center will resume normal operations and hours on Monday.
- Portable toilets, bottled water and potable water are still being provided throughout campus. Please bring your own individual water bottle and save disposable bottles as they are in short supply.
- Drinking water should be picked up at the fresh water locations on campus. A boil water advisory is in place for the City of Galveston and several surrounding areas. All water for consumption should be boiled and cooled prior to use; water does not need to be boiled for other purposes.
- The Galveston Campus will be doing campus community COVID-19 testing on campus next week. Details on dates, locations and times will be communicated on Monday after 3 p.m.
- Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated area can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585 TTY.
- No changes will be made to the end date of the semester and all planned reading days and holidays will remain as scheduled. Your faculty member will determine how to deliver the content missed this week.
- No graded activities or exams will be due before Feb. 25 at 8 a.m. for all instructional activities originally scheduled for Monday, Feb. 15 – Wednesday, Feb. 24.
- To accommodate delayed scheduled exams, common exams will be rescheduled and faculty now have the option to administer exams during the last week of classes.
- Faculty will be revising and posting their syllabi no later than 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25.
- The midterm grading period has been extended until Monday, Mar. 15.
- The Q-drop and withdraw deadlines have been extended to 5 p.m. on April 30
- Currently power and sporadic water service has been restored on campus, however most of campus remains without heat and water service. We strongly encourage you to conserve water and power. If possible, store water for sanitation and hygienic purposes. While we have not been provided guidance on when power and water services are expected to be fully restored, those remaining on campus should prepare for intermittent outages through the next several days.
- Student residents of Oceans and Hullabaloo who would like to relocate through the weekend may check-in at the Maritime Academy Hall front-desk after 4:30 p.m.
- Off-campus students who are without power and/or water should email [email protected] for assistance.
- Fresh drinking water is available at Captain’s Landing, Student Center, Waterfront Pavilion and in all residence hall lobbies. Bring a refillable water bottle if able. Individual bottles of water are in short supply and should be refilled, not discarded.
- Warming and charging stations have been extended across campus to include the Waterfront Pavilion, Student Center and common areas in Atlantic, Pacific and Maritime Academy residence halls for all on and off-campus students.
- Portable toilets are stationed outside each residence hall and throughout campus.
- Dining services continues to provide brunch and dinner meal service with reduced variety at Captain’s Land for both on and off-campus students. Alternate options are available upon request for those who have food allergies.
- The library and recreational facilities are open as long as power remains on campus. Check the app for details and hours.
- All instruction, including exams and assessments and non-essential operations remain canceled through Sunday and non-essential staff should remain off-campus through the weekend. Assessments includes all tests, homework and assignments.
- CORPS activities remain suspended through Sunday. Additional communications will be provided over the weekend with further instructions.
- The City of Galveston and all surrounding cities have issued a boil water advisory that will remain in effect until further notice. Water should be boiled prior to consumption, including drinking, washing hands/faces, cooking, making ice and brushing teeth. Water may be used for non-consumption purposes without being boiled. If you do not have power to boil water continue to use bottled water.
- Local officials have issued a reminder for residents to track expenses incurred as a result of the winter storm in case individual assistance becomes available from FEMA. Take photos of spoiled food and water damage before being fixed, and track expenses for items such as plumbing repairs, lodging, etc. There is no guarantee of individual assistance at this time, but officials want residents to be aware and prepared.
- All students and staff on-campus should continue to follow COVID-19 community mitigation strategies: wearing masks over the mouth and nose, maintaining physical hygiene practices, maintaining physical distance and staying home if sick.
- State, county and city emergency management officials continue to strongly discourage unnecessary travel as most of the state and surrounding areas will continue to have life threatening travel conditions. If travel is absolutely necessary, road and travel conditions should be monitored via the Texas Department of Transportation at drivetexas.org or call toll free at 800-452-9292 prior to departure.
