Texas A&M Galveston’s 2026 Mardi Gras Viewing Party Achieves “Over the Moon” Success for Student Scholarships
Over $100,000 raised for the George P. Mitchell Society Fund.

GALVESTON, TX — Texas A&M University at Galveston reached a new orbit of community support last weekend during its 11th Annual Knights of Momus Grand Parade viewing party. Held at the historic Tremont House, the “Fly Me to the Moon” themed event brought together over 400 distinguished guests and raised more than $100,000 for the George P. Mitchell Society Fund.
The sold-out Valentine’s night celebration featured striking moon and space-mission imagery, providing a dramatic backdrop that underscored the university’s mission to launch the next generation of marine and maritime leaders.
“The viewing party is an exciting way to not only honor those who support our mission, while raising critical funds for the educational journeys of our deserving Sea Aggies,” said Col. Michael E. Fossum ’80, Vice President of Texas A&M, Chief Operating Officer of the Galveston Campus, and Superintendent of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy. “On behalf of our campus and our community, I want to thank our sponsors and everyone who attended for their deep commitment to our students and the future of Galveston. This support ensures we are not leading in a vacuum but are instead powered by a community that believes in the potential of our students.”
The funds raised are vital to the campus mission, primarily used to endow scholarships for students from the Galveston area, as well as other recruiting scholarships, and to support broader student enrichment programs. The real-world impact of this generosity is already evident in the success of current scholarship recipients and the special opportunities the university provides to enhance the education of others.
The university extended special recognition to the event honorees, Congressman Randy and Brenda Weber, for their tremendous impact on the campus and their tireless advocacy for the greater Galveston community.
The success of the evening was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Tremont House. Their partnership honors the property’s legacy as a former Mitchell property and reflects the late George P. Mitchell’s original passion for bringing Texas A&M to the island. This shared mission continues to provide local students with access to excellent education and high-impact career opportunities.
Each year, this “party with a purpose” celebrates the friends and partners of Texas A&M Galveston who contribute to the health of marine environments and the betterment of the maritime industry.
