At Texas A&M at Galveston, when student leaders offer advice, the campus community listens.

Captains, officers and students of the Texas Maritime Academy, part of Texas A&M University at Galveston, recently departed for the first of two training cruises in the Gulf of Mexico this summer.

Recently, “thebestcolleges.org” ranked Texas A&M University at Galveston in the top 10 best satellite campuses in the nation. TAMUG is an integral branch of the internationally-acclaimed Texas A&M University.

Words passed down from generation to generation have great meaning. And, when spoken by men and women who take an oath of honor to lay down their lives in service of their country, words have greatest meaning.

“My job as chancellor is to make sure you have access to resources you need to succeed,” he said. And for students, that means jobs. For maritime cadets, it’s a new training ship and for the campus community it’s support of excellence in research and teaching.

Reveille, the official mascot of Texas A&M University and the highest ranking member of the Corps of Cadets recently visited the TAMUG campus to honor long-standing Aggie traditions.

Kirby Inland Marine representatives -- Agustin Colchado, manager of Employee Development, and Ken Shaver, Canal Personnel manager -- visited TAMUG in January to present a check for $25,000 to cover special scholarships for qualifying students in the Texas Maritime Academy Cadet Battalion for the 2011-2012 academic year.

The Texas Maritime Academy at Texas A&M University at Galveston, working in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration, hosted the 4th Annual Women on the Water Conference at TAMUG’s Mitchell Campus on Pelican Island Nov. 4 – 6.
