Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit conference
The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce will honor outstanding Texas women at the 10th Annual Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit conference for women. Of those being honored is Dr. Donna Lang, Associate Vice President for Academic Operations at Texas A&M University at Galveston.
In the chamber announcement, Dr. Lang was recognized for her work at the Galveston campus and her leadership in the community. Dr. Lang has worked in student development for almost thirty years and currently serves as the Chair for the Galveston County Regional Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. During her tenure the campus has grown from 480 students to almost 2,500 as well as diversifying programs to include 11 undergraduate degrees. The Texas A&M University at Galveston outreach programs have included Sea Camp and Sea Campus Kids, Maritime Camp, partnerships with Ball High and GISD, integration with Galveston College, Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair, and more. To recognize her contributions, the students have named the Fall 2017 freshman camp in her honor.
“I am humbled and honored to be included among such wonderful women for this award,” said Dr. Lang. “I have been blessed to work for such an amazing university for most of my professional career. Reaching out to our fabulous students to guide, mentor and encourage them is an honor in itself. And, representing them to our administration is a privilege as we work together in the growth and development of our wonderful Texas A&M University at Galveston campus.”
Besides Dr. Lang, the other women that will be honored at the women’s conference are Francie Moody Dahlberg the Chairman and Executive Director of the Moody Foundation, Dancie Perugini Ware the founder and principle of Dancie Perugini Ware Public Relations of Houston, Carol Greaney Wurst the owner and operator of the Greaney Company, Laura Elder the Managing Editor of the Galveston County Daily News, Amie Sikes and Jolie Sikes owners of the Junk Gypsy Company of Roundrock, TX and the stars of cable channels Great American Country and HGTV, Lynda Guidry the owner of the Guidry News Service, Susan Peters the Director of Unbound, a national organization that fights human trafficking, Brenda Weber the founding member of Kindred Hearts of Galveston County and Dr. Joan Nichols a Professor of Internal Medicine, and Microbiology & Immunology, the Associate Director of the Galveston National Laboratory and Dean for Student Affairs for the graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
The event will be held Thursday, April 6, at Moody Gardens Convention Center.
