Texas A&M Galveston helps sponsor Maritime security conference in Galveston

|

Texas A&M University Galveston Campus is one of the sponsors of the Fifth Annual Maritime Security East Conference to be held March 7 – 9 in the ballroom at the Moody Gardens Hotel.  The conference will provide participants from the federal, state and local agencies, ports and private industry an opportunity to learn and collaborate across different perspectives, jurisdictions, and borders on maritime security.

The program will provide content and in depth discussions involving Maritime Professional Responders/Officers, Ports/Maritime Facilities, Technology/Cyber Security and general sessions that apply to all maritime security stakeholders.

Texas A&M Galveston will provide information on its maritime security program taught by Jack Dougherty, Assistant Commandant, Texas A&M Maritime Academy and Dr. Joan P. Mileski, Professor and Department Head of the Department of Maritime Administration.  Mileski will also provide a session on how ports can protect against disruptive adverse weather events.

Other events planned include an in depth tour of the Port of Galveston, demonstrations by the Galveston Police Department’s Marine Unit and Dive Team, live demonstrations by the Maritime Professional Responders and Officers Association of their tactical vessel operations training and on-water and pier side live demonstrations of tactical vessels and technologies.  A Cyber Security workshop in Maritime Security will discuss the business critical and operational importance of integrated technology and cyber networks.  These are just a few of the sessions offered.

“We are very fortunate to have Texas A&M Galveston as a sponsor of the program,” said Sareth Neak, President, Homeland Security Outlook, Neak Media LLC.  “Texas A&M Galveston brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the content of the program and will be instrumental in the discussions driving maritime security into the future.  In addition, having the cadets participate in the program will provide them with valuable knowledge from operators and leaders in the field and give them a great opportunity to network and connect with professionals who may have an impact on their future careers in the maritime industry.”
