The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved the naming of The Cheryl Mellenthin Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital and Educational Outreach Center during their August meeting.

This week, the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research celebrated its second anniversary. During their first two years, the Center cared for over 85 turtles, and volunteers spent thousands of hours focused on conservation efforts.

Texas A&M University at Galveston’s Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research (GCSTR) plans to open a short-term sea turtle hospital on campus later this fall.

The Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research at Texas A&M University at Galveston was just awarded a $99,984 state wildlife grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to tag sea turtles in Galveston Bay.
